Reason of the War
This war exists because Israel occupies our land and denies our basic rights that Allah has granted to all human beings. As Muslims, we understand that the Quran teaches us to stand firmly against oppression (zulm). Our resistance is not terrorism – it is following Allah's command to fight injustice wherever it exists.
The root causes of this conflict go back decades. Since 1967, Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank have lived under a brutal military occupation that controls every aspect of their lives. In Gaza specifically, Israel has imposed a suffocating blockade since 2007, restricting everything from food and medicine to building materials and electricity. This blockade has been called "collective punishment" by international organizations – a practice forbidden in Islam.
Allah says in the Holy Quran:
"And what is [the matter] with you that you fight not in the cause of Allah and [for] the oppressed among men, women, and children who say, 'Our Lord, take us out of this city of oppressive people and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for us from Yourself a helper.'" (Surah An-Nisa 4:75)
This verse clearly establishes our Islamic duty to stand against oppression and help those who are being oppressed. The Palestinians have endured decades of dispossession, occupation, and humiliation. Their homes have been demolished, their land confiscated, their water resources stolen, and their freedom of movement severely restricted.
Israel uses massive military force against Palestinian civilians, destroying homes, schools, hospitals, and infrastructure. They have killed thousands of our brothers and sisters, including countless children. These actions violate every principle of proportionality and distinction in warfare.
The lack of accountability for Israeli crimes encourages further aggression. Our Prophet ﷺ warned: "Beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allah." (Sahih al-Bukhari)
Years of so-called "peace processes" have failed because Israel has never acted in good faith. While negotiating, they continued building illegal settlements on Palestinian land, making a viable Palestinian state increasingly impossible. These settlements now house over 700,000 Israeli settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The situation in Jerusalem (Al-Quds) is particularly provocative. As Muslims, we hold Al-Aqsa Mosque as our third holiest site after Makkah and Madinah. Yet Israeli forces regularly raid this sacred place, assault worshippers, and allow extremist settlers to perform provocative rituals there.
The asymmetry of power is stark. Israel possesses one of the world's most powerful militaries, nuclear weapons, and unlimited support from Western powers. Palestinians have no army, navy, or air force – only their determination to resist oppression and their faith that Allah is with those who stand for justice.
When we stand with Palestine, we stand for the justice that is at the heart of our faith. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that "oppression is darkness on the Day of Judgment." Supporting the Palestinian struggle against occupation is not just a political position – it is an Islamic obligation to stand against zulm (oppression) in all its forms.
