World Status

We Muslims around the world stand united for Palestine, even when our governments don't do enough. This solidarity reflects the concept of ummah (global Muslim community) that transcends national borders. In mosques from Jakarta to Johannesburg, from Istanbul to Islamabad, prayers are offered for our Palestinian brothers and sisters. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When one limb suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever."

Muslim-majority countries consistently speak up for Palestinian rights at the United Nations and other international forums. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), representing 57 member states, has repeatedly condemned Israeli aggression and called for an end to the occupation. Countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey, and Pakistan have been particularly vocal.

However, we must acknowledge that many Muslim governments face significant constraints in providing stronger support. Economic dependence on Western powers, internal challenges, and geopolitical pressures limit their ability to take more decisive action. Some Arab regimes have even normalized relations with Israel without securing Palestinian rights – a betrayal of both Islamic principles and the Palestinian cause.

Western countries, especially America, continue providing Israel with unconditional diplomatic protection, military aid, and economic support. The United States gives Israel approximately $3.8 billion in military assistance annually, making it the largest recipient of US foreign aid. The US has used its veto power at the UN Security Council over 40 times to shield Israel from international accountability.

This Western bias reveals a profound double standard in how international law is applied. As Allah says in the Quran:

"O you who believe! Be upholders of justice, witnesses for Allah, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your relatives." (Surah An-Nisa 4:135)

However, there are encouraging signs of change in global opinion. People of conscience worldwide, including growing numbers of Jews and even Israelis, now recognize and speak out against the injustice Palestinians face. The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement has gained significant momentum globally.

The South African government's genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice marks a significant shift in global accountability efforts. As a nation that overcame its own apartheid system, South Africa's moral standing lends powerful legitimacy to Palestinian claims.

For us Muslims, this growing global awareness confirms what our faith teaches – that justice will ultimately prevail over oppression. Allah reassures us in the Quran:

"Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will certainly grant them succession in the land, as He granted it to those before them." (Surah An-Nur 24:55)
